The question is:

“Why all high IQ persons are not successful in life?”

The simple answer is:

“IQ measures just one type of intelligence. There are other types of intelligence related to success in life.”

Now let us look at this question in a broader perspective.

According to Psychologists, there are four basic measures to predict/judge a successful person:

1)  Intelligence Quotient (IQ)

2) Emotional Quotient (EQ)

3) Social Quotient (SQ)

4) Adversity Quotient (AQ)

————-

  1. Intelligence Quotient (IQ):

This is the measure of the level of comprehension and intellectual ability. Higher IQ is needed to solve            mathematics, memorize things, and recall lessons. Some of the most common elements of IQ include the ability to:

  1. use logic to solve problems
  2. plan and strategize
  3. understand abstract ideas
  4. learn and adapt to change
  5. grasp and use language

There are various tests available for measuring IQ. Most famous is Mensa IQ test. It is interesting to know the results of a global survey.

Persons having an IQ score above 110 are considered intelligent and those with a score above 135 fall in thee category of genius (only 1.5%).

  1. Emotional Quotient (EQ):

This is the measure of the ability to maintain peace with others, keep to time, be responsible, be honest, respect boundaries, be humble, genuine and considerate. It also include the ability to understand, use, and manage one’s own emotions in positive ways to relieve stress, communicate effectively, empathize with others, overcome challenges and defuse conflict.

There are four components of Emotional Intelligence:

  1. Self-awareness
  2. Self-management
  3. Social awareness
  4. Relationship management

The EQ also refers to the ability to sense emotion in oneself and in other people and how to use that awareness to guide one’s behavior. In general, a person with high EQ, finds it easier to:

  1. identify emotions in own self and others
  2. empathize with other people
  3. adapt feelings and behavior to different situations
  4. control impulses
  5. withstand temptations and delay gratifications
  6. resolve conflicts with others
  7. communicate effectively

The IQ and EQ are considered to be most important types of intelligence.

Let us compare them.

Historically, scores on IQ tests have been linked to better academic performance, higher salaries, and better job performance.

On the other hand, scores on EQ have been linked to job success and more satisfying relationships. There’s also evidence that emotional intelligence may help to handle stress and to recover more quickly.

Now let us discuss the other two types of Intelligence:

  1. Social Quotient (SQ):

This is the measure of one’s ability to build a network of friends and maintain it over a long period of time.

People that have higher EQ and SQ tend to go further in life than those with a high IQ but low EQ and SQ.

Usually the emphasis is on IQ levels while EQ and SQ are played down. A man of high IQ can end up being employed by a man of high EQ and SQ even though he has an average IQ.

EQ represents your Character, while your SQ represents your Charisma.

  1. The Adversity Quotient (AQ):

This is the measure of the ability to go through a rough patch in life, and how to come out of it with/without losing mind. When faced with troubles, AQ determines who will give up and who will be steadfast to ride out of that rough patch.

There are four dimensions of AQ:

  1. control
  2. ownership
  3. reach
  4. endurance

————-

It is said that IQ is God gifted and there is very little room for improvement, but other three quotients, i.e., EQ, SQ and AQ can be nurtured and developed. So everyone should try to improve these quotients because as mentioned above they are probably more important than IQ.

My suggestions are:

  1. The elders which include parents, elder sisters and brothers, and teachers should expose their children, younger siblings and students to other areas of life, not just academics.
  1. Teaching of basic values such as truth, honesty, hard work, love of humans and animals, and love of homeland should be the foremost goal.
  1. Love of manual work, sports and arts should be developed because these activities are just as important as academics.
  1. Additionally, they should be asked to challenge themselves as a routine and to come out of their comfort zones.
  1. Finally, do not prepare the road for them. Prepare them for the road.

  2. Respected sir, i want to know from your BLOG ” What is happiness ” is it consisting of getting what we want? or
If we don’t have sufficient income to pay tuition fee of our children, money for petrol, money to pay electricity bill, money for food stuff for our family even we will feel content? where we can get happiness? how we can get happiness?
    Thanks

    1. Dear Aslam

Happiness means satisfaction. For both, we need to be contended. We should not feel jealous towards anyone. If you are doing so, you are challenging the distribution by Allah. Every person is granted a package by Allah. It is different for everybody. May be the satisfaction level of a poor person is much more than a rich person. He never needs sleeping pills.
Now to the second part of your query? Satisfaction does not mean that you should not try to improve your living standards. I am confident that sincere efforts are never wasted. Important thing is that you should keep your living standard according to your resources and gradually increase it as your resources improve.
There are so many examples of people who started from the lowest levels and reached the highest level. I know at least three business tycoons of Faisalabad who started by selling their goods on carts.
Finally, during this journey it is important to try your best and never loose courage. There will be rough times. So your AQ score should be strong.
      Regards
